Coach Garage is an app for keeping a motorhome's fuel, service, maintenance, tires, trips, documents and expenses in one place. It's designed so your information stays with you.
What we collect
Nothing. Coach Garage has no accounts, no servers, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. We (the developer) never receive any of your data.
What the app stores on your device
Everything you enter is stored on your iPhone, iPad or Mac:
- your coach's details
- fuel, DEF and propane entries
- service records, expenses and documents, with their photos, scans and PDFs
- the maintenance schedule, tires, trips, checklists and saved places
It's included in your device's own iCloud or computer backups, which are controlled by Apple and you.
iCloud sync
If you're signed in to iCloud, Coach Garage keeps your records in step between your own devices through your private iCloud database (Apple CloudKit). That database belongs to your Apple Account: only you can read it, and we, the developer, have no access to it. To stop syncing, open the Settings app, tap your name, then iCloud, and turn off Coach Garage under Apps Using iCloud.
Location
If you start a trip with GPS turned on, Coach Garage uses your location while that trip is active, including while your device is locked, to add up the distance you drive and record the route. The route (positions, speeds and elevations along the way) is saved with that trip so you can see it on a map. Like your other records, it is stored on your device and, if iCloud sync is on, in your private iCloud database; it is never sent to us or anyone else unless you export it yourself. Tracking stops when you end the trip or turn GPS off. Deleting a trip deletes its route. Maps are drawn with Apple Maps, which loads map images for the area you're viewing. When you log a fuel, DEF or propane fill, Coach Garage (if you've allowed location) takes one reading of where you are, saves it with the fill, and asks Apple Maps for the stations nearby so you can pick one. Nothing is tracked between fills; a fill logged later from somewhere else doesn't keep where you were. When you add your storage lot and tap "I'm There Now", one reading of your location becomes the lot's pin. Campground and place search suggests nearby results first, using the location your device last knew; that stays on your device and is handled by Apple Maps like any Maps search. You can deny or change location access at any time in the Settings app.
Your storage lot
If you add where the coach is kept, its name, address, map pin, gate or lock code, space, hours and phone are stored like your other records: on your device and, with iCloud sync, in your private iCloud. The gate code stays hidden on screen until you tap it. None of it, and none of the places where you filled up, is ever included in the buyer logbook or the spreadsheet export. A full backup file does include them, so keep backups somewhere private.
Recall check
When you check for safety recalls (Maintenance → Recalls), Coach Garage sends your coach's VIN, year, make and model to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), then asks NHTSA for the recalls of the chassis model it decoded from the VIN, and shows what it returns. If there's no VIN, the chassis field (e.g. "Freightliner XC") is used instead. Nothing else is sent. It happens only when you check, or when you open Recalls more than a week after your last check. The request goes straight from your device to NHTSA; we never see it. NHTSA's privacy policy: https://www.nhtsa.gov/about-nhtsa/privacy-policy
Campground search
When you type a campground name, Coach Garage asks Apple Maps for matching campgrounds, RV parks and parks, as Apple Maps itself does. Choosing one saves its town, address, phone, website, kind of place and location with your campground notes.
Contacts
Coach Garage never reads your contacts. When you choose "From iPhone Contacts", the system picker shows your contacts and only the one card you pick is shared with the app.
Camera and photos
The camera is used only when you choose to scan paperwork. Reading a receipt (the amount, date, place and fuel volume) happens on your device with Apple's built-in text recognition; the image and its text are never sent anywhere. Photos and files you pick are copied into the record or document you attach them to. Coach Garage saves an image to your photo library only when you choose to.
Notifications
Reminders for maintenance, tire age, expiring documents and low DEF are scheduled locally on your device.
Sharing and backups
Apart from iCloud sync, data leaves your device only when you choose to export, share or save a backup, and it goes only where you send it. Backup files aren't encrypted. The buyer logbook leaves out your expenses, documents, contacts, trips and fill locations unless you choose to include them, and never includes the storage lot.
Siri and widgets
Siri requests are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. Actions that change your records (logging fuel or an expense, updating the odometer) ask you to unlock your device first. Starting, ending and cancelling a trip don't, so they can run from a Shortcuts automation when your phone connects to the coach. Widgets show information from the app on your own device.
Children
Coach Garage is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone.
Deleting your data
To start over, use Settings → Backup → Delete All Data in the app: it deletes everything on the device and, with iCloud sync on, from your private iCloud and your other devices. Deleting the app removes what's on that device; to clear iCloud too, also delete Coach Garage's data in the Settings app (your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Coach Garage). Backups or exports you saved elsewhere stay where you saved them.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new date. Questions: hello@coachgarage.app.

Newsletter
If you sign up for Coach Garage news on this website, your email address goes to MailerLite, the service that stores the list and sends the emails. It's used only to send Coach Garage news, such as launch day and big updates, and is never sold or shared. You confirm by email first, and every email has an unsubscribe link.
